Ariel Martz-Oberlander

Ariel Martz-Oberlander

Associate Producer

Ariel is a theatre artist, writer, director and activist based in Vancouver. She divides her time between the worlds of performance, community organizing, and teaching, with much overlap. Her work explores the intersection of spectator and agitator in an attempt to find the personal in the global, specializing in theatrical protests. Recent works include community theatre projects with Creativa International, in partnership with Covenant House and The Gathering Place, and original plays at Vines Festival and Vancouver Fringe. Her identity as a Jewish settler with diasporic roots has inspired a strong commitment to art that engages on a level of place-based decolonizing and climate justice. Her newest play, in which the climate crisis is explored through the lens of a woman losing her memory and the river who tries to understand her humanity, won a research and development prize from the Arts Club this spring.
